IntroductionPoker originated in Europe, but flourished across the Atlantic in the nineteenth century. The game has become an integral part of American culture, evoking the Mississippi Riverboat era and the pioneer days of the Wild West. Poker is now a whole family of card games, mostly played with five or seven cards. AusVegas Joker Poker is a variant of the most popular five-card Draw Poker. RULES OF PLAYAim of the GameThe object of Joker Poker is to start with five cards, and through discarding some of the cards and drawing others build a hand which contains one of a number of different winning combinations similar to those in the traditional table game of Five Card Draw Poker. Card Rankings
Each of the cards has a hierarchical
position in the 13-card suit. The sequence from highest to lowest in
rank is Ace - King - Queen - Jack - 10 - 9 - 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2
- Ace. The Ace occupies the position at both ends of the sequence. Therefore, the Ace can be used in a run of
five sequential cards, known as a "straight", in one of two positions -
at the beginning of the run, Ace - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5, or at the end of the
run, 10 - Jack - Queen - King - Ace. In all other circumstances except
a straight, Aces always take the higher rather than lower rank in
relation to other cards. The Joker is a Wild Card and counts as
whatever other card most improves a player's hand. For example, in a
hand consisting of 4 - 5 - 6 - 8 - Joker, the Joker would count as if
it was a seven, making the hand a winning straight sequence 4 - 5 - 6 -
7 - 8. Similarly, in a hand consisting of 10 - Joker - 9 - Ace - 10,
the Joker would count as another ten, turning a single pair of tens
into a "Three of a Kind" winning combination. In the case of two pairs
and a Joker, the Joker will turn the hand into a "Full House" winning
combination by counting as a third card of whichever pair has the
higher rank. The DealFive cards are dealt to the player face up on the screen. The Players OptionsThe player must choose whether to mark "Hold" on none, some, or all of the five cards. The player then hits "Draw" and those cards that have not been held are discarded and others are dealt in their place. The game then pays the appropriate prize for any winning combination that results after the second round of cards have been dealt. The winning combinations are similar to those of Five Card draw Poker, ie Two Pairs, Three of a Kind, Straight, Flush, Full House, Four of a Kind, Straight Flush, and Royal Flush. However, AusVegas Joker Poker is dealt from a pack of cards including the Wild Card Joker. This allows an extra winning combination of Five of a Kind that is not possible in ordinary Draw Poker. Five of a Kind is the second best hand possible, valued between a Royal Flush and a Straight. Game TerminologyDeal - When the DEAL button is clicked, five cards are dealt to the player face up. Hold - Players may keep some of the cards in their hand, and discard those they wish to change for others in the hope of improving their hand. Clicking on a card marks it "Hold", or releases it if it is already held. The Joker Poker game automatically holds for the player those cards that are a pair or already a winning hand, but the player can still choose to discard them. Draw - When the player has decided which, if any, cards are to be held, clicking on "Draw" discards those not held and deals new cards in their place. Royal Flush - A Royal Flush is the highest hand in Joker Poker. It consists of 10 - Jack - Queen - King - Ace all of the same suit. Five of a Kind - A hand with five of a kind contains four cards of the same value plus a Joker. Straight Flush - A hand with a straight flush contains 5 cards of consecutive value, in the same suit. As for a straight, the Ace cannot be used within a Straight Flush. Four of a Kind - A hand with four of a kind contains four cards of the same face value, in any suit. Full House - A hand with a full house contains two sets of cards. One set is a three of a kind, and the other set is a pair. Neither set is required to have cards of the same suit. Flush - A hand with a flush contains five cards of the same suit, not necessarily in any particular order. Straight - A hand with a straight contains five consecutive cards from the sequence Ace - King - Queen - Jack - 10 - 9 - 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - Ace. Any of the cards can be in any suit. The Ace can be used in one of two possible places in a straight - next to the two, or next to the King. For example, in the run, Ace - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5, or in the run, 10 - Jack - Queen - King - Ace. Both of these straights are valid winning sequences. The Ace can NOT be used within a straight. For example, King - Ace - 2 - 3 - 4, or Queen - King - Ace - 2 - 3, or Jack - Queen - King - Ace - 2. These are not valid winning sequences. Three of a Kind - A hand with three of a kind contains three cards of the same value, in any suit. Two Pairs - A hand with two cards of the same face value and another two cards of the same face value (but not the same as the first pair) plus any other card. Joker - The Joker is a Wild Card, which has no value of its own, but will always take the value of whichever card will most improve the player's hand. For instance, If the player holds a pair of Jacks and a pair of 8s with a Joker, the Joker will be counted as a Jack, giving the player a Full House. Similarly, if the Player is holding a Joker with a 3, 4, 6, and 7, then the Joker will become a 5, giving the player a straight. Playing a Game1.
