Introduction
The Baccarat game is a traditional French casino card game where the Player and the Banker are each given a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 cards. The winning hand is determined by the closest total to 9 where all 10s and face cards count as zero. (eg. A hand containing a 10, a King and a 5 would be counted as a total of5).
Similarly, a total of 10 or more on the first 2 cards counts as the total minus 10 (eg. a nine and a seven on the first 2 cards would count as a total of 6 i.e. (9+7)-10 = 6).
Should either the Banker's hand or the Player's hand show a total of 8 or 9 on the first 2 cards, the hand is termed a "Natural". In this case, the game is over and no further cards are dealt.
The drawing of the Player's third card is determined by the total of the first 2 cards in the Player's hand and not by the Player or the Banker. The Player must hit (draw another card) on 0,1,2,3,4,5 and stand on 6,7,8 and 9. Depending on the third card dealt to the Player, the Banker must hit on 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 and stand on 7,8 and 9 - refer Gameplay Instructions for full details.
To play this game, the player selects a bet amount and clicks on the centre of the betting area to place the bet, clicking repeatedly to increase the bet if desired. The player may select and place different amounts, or click on CLEAR BETS to remove the bet to start again. Players may choose to bet on a Tie, on the Bankers hand winning or the Players hand winning, or any combination of these. The player selects DEAL and the game is played out.
Gameplay Instructions
The basic rules of the game are as follows:
Select Bet Amount
The bet amount must be set before the cards are dealt. The default bet amount and minimum bet amount is $1. The maximum chip amount is $500.
Select your preferred bet amount by clicking one of the chips in the Bet Amounts section of the Player Panel. Then click on the table betting area corresponding to the bet you would like to place, i.e. on the '3' in the square boxes for a Tie, in the centre "Banker Circle" for Banker and on the '3' in the centre 'Player Circle' for Player, clicking repeatedly to increase the bet if desired. The player may select and place different bet amounts, or click on CLEAR BETS to remove the bet to start again. Once the player is happy with the bet amount, they click DEAL.
Changing the Bet Amount
If you are not satisfied with the bet amount you have selected you may click a different bet amount. This is only possible if you have not yet begun to play the game.
Payout Amounts
A Win on the Banker's hand pays 19 - 20. A Win on the Player's hand pays 1 - 1 or even money. A Tie pays 8 - 1.
Play the Game
When you are satisfied with your bet, click the "Deal" button to start dealing the cards.
There may be a short delay while the new game is set up.
After the first 2 cards are dealt to each hand, the game automatically calculates the totals. The "Banker" and "Player" hands will then either automatically stand or receive an additional card, depending on the total value of each hand, as governed by the following rules:
If the "Player" hand has a value of 0 to 5: Another card is drawn for the "Player" hand.
If the "Player" hand has a value of 6 or 7: The "Player" hand stands (does not draw another card).
If the "Player" hand has a value of 8 or 9: The "Player" hand is a "natural" winning hand, and automatically wins without the "Banker" hand drawing another card, unless the "Banker" hand has the same or higher value.
If the "Player" first two cards total 6 or 7: The "Banker" draws on a total of 0 - 5.
Otherwise, the third card received by the "Player" determines whether the "Banker" takes another card or stands according to the following rules:
If the "Banker" hand has a value of 0 to 2: Another card is drawn for the "Banker" hand.
If the "Banker" hand has a value of 3: If the third card drawn for the "Player" hand is anything but 8 or no player card drawn, another card is drawn for the "Banker" hand; otherwise the "Banker" hand stands (does not draw another card).
If the "Banker" hand has a value of 4: If the third card drawn for the "Player" hand is 2 to 7 inclusive or no player card drawn, another card is drawn for the "Banker" hand; otherwise the "Banker" hand stands (does not draw another card).
If the "Banker" hand has a value of 5: If the third card drawn for the "Player" hand is 4 to 7 inclusive or no player card drawn, another card is drawn for the "Banker" hand; otherwise the "Banker" hand stands (does not draw another card).
If the "Banker" hand has a value of 6: If a third card was drawn for the "Player" hand and the third card was a 6 or 7, another card is drawn for the "Banker" hand; otherwise the "Banker" hand stands (does not draw another card).
If the "Banker" hand has a value of 7: The "Banker" hand stands (does not draw another card).
If the "Banker" hand has a value of 8 or 9: The "Banker" hand is a "natural" winning hand, and automatically wins unless the "Player" hand has the same or higher value.
When the "Player" and the "Banker" hands equal the same total, the hand is declared a Tie. In the event of a Tie, the bets on "Banker" and "Player" are declared a push and remain in place until the beginning of the next hand (i.e. the bet was neither won or lost).
